inGameRadio - The official podcast of XboxNowOnline

Welcome to inGameRadio - the latest media venture by H-ZONE Media.

Hey everyone,

We're glad you made it here to iGR/XBO. So you're probably wondering what's up with XboxNowOnline and why iGR is here...am I right? Long story short - As Editor in Chief here at XBO, I received countless emails and requests asking us to do more podcasting and cover more tech. Often times, I'd get emails asking tech based questions as well. iGR is scheduled to be a weekly podcast with myself and Dean Tripp - Senior Editor here at XBO. We both did the XBO Radio shows together, and think that we can do a heck of a job if we make this podcast one of our priorites (XBO Radio was just kind of a side thing, and we didn't really promote it too much) The podcast is set to be recorded LIVE, so you'll still be able to call in with your questions just like on XBO Radio.

Some things you can hope to see on a regular basis:

- Regular news updates here on iGR/XBO - We'll probably be posting Xbox 360 News here - news which we feel impacts YOU the gamer (so don't expect any BS stories) - We'll also throw in any tech news we find fascinating

- Weekly podcast download and show notes

- Availability on iTunes

- Along with video tutorials/reviews

---

We want your questions - whatever they may be in relation to technology/gaming, and we'll try our best to answer them on our shows.

Generally speaking, the inGameRadio podcast will divied up with Dean (DJ) doing/talking about today's gaming scene, while I'll take over the technology news. Ofcourse, we both hope to chime in together throughout. We'll save a segment of the show for callers along with time set aside for interviews/guests.

---

NOTE: Website is still on hiatus, but we thought we'd give you guys an update - We're not announcing any relase dates yet.

---

iA

Bill's Dead!: New Left 4 Dead DLC inbound

So yeah, if you're an avid supporter of my non-profit organization, Why did Valve Kill Bill? (not a real organization) You're gonna enjoy this next tidbit of news. While Valve was firing off news about Portal 2 and all the dirty details of their launch, they also let loose some L4D information on the latest episode of Gametrailers TV. The news? A new campaign mission will release for both games, 1 and 2. Named "The Sacrifice," this DLC will see players running around grabbing pills, shooting zombies, and oh right, deciding the fate of Bill! That's right, The Passing saw him die, but apparently, it doesn't have to be so. The idea of a moral choice in Left 4 Dead sounds awesome, and we're hoping the alternative isn't Zoey dying, because Bill would be totally dead. So, you can expect the DLC to also include a remastered Mercy Hospital mission in Left 4 Dead 2 rendered glory (and gore). As for a release date, it's Valve, so whenever they feel like giving it to us, for a price of course, an unknown price on Xbox Live. It's free for PC, damn you Microsoft!

Via - Gametrailers

I’m not a rager, and you will rarely hear me cursing at the screen, (especially whilst playing Single Player) but some games just get to me. One such game is the newest addition to the Prince of Persia series, one with a dedicated following, and a lot of people who are going to rip me apart for this review. It’s just challenging for me not to review this game because of all the experiences I’ve had with it. These experiences, however, were rarely pleasant, and even fewer were even somewhat exciting for me. We could really start anywhere, so let’s talk about the story for a moment, shall we? Well for starters, it features the Prince in a castle, his brother Malik’s castle, as it’s being sieged by the very usual invaders. The story thrusts you into a tale we’ve heard hundreds of times, defend a besieged castle and reunite with whomever you know in said castle. This castle is the setting; you won’t leave it, not for a moment. Even in a strange, unchanging dreamscape where you visit one of the Djinn, Razia, to get whatever power she feels like thrusting into your rippled chest. Now don’t get me wrong, she’s probably the least annoying of the four or so characters that always show up in annoying times, but still, she could do something with the décor. I know the definition of bias, and I know that I don’t have much. I came into this Prince of Persia scene without playing any of the last-gen iterations. But I did play the last Ubisoft tale, simply titled Prince of Persia with a cel-shaded graphics style and a simple and pretty boring combat system, and I liked it more than this one.

- full review (click here) -

I have trouble listing all of the annoyances I encountered in this roughly 10 hour game, (normal difficulty) but my main problem is the mechanics. There are so many powers, buttons and things you need to remember at every leap that you’ll forget them very often. There are parts when the puzzles aren’t working against you; it’s the somewhat messy power layout getting to you at every freaking turn. There are points that I wanted to throw my controller at my very nice flat-screen, but only practiced discretion thanks to some very powerful prescription drugs. Maybe I’m a bad platformer, but the controls mess with you in the most trying moments, like freezing water and unfreezing it four times whiles jumping between each sheet to get to the next water pole and the following sheets. I had to play this game in moderation up until this evening, and I was happy, but now that I want a new title from Gamefly soon, I rushed it, and it blew. This is a game best taken in slow strides, with breathers in between to help keep you from shattering the game into several annoying shards. The medieval traps you encounter at every corner are beyond a nuisance, and the game stops becoming a fun challenge, and just gets mentally challenged. The combat is mediocre, and only gets worse when enemies die way too easily with the newest sword, one which makes grunting noises in foreign languages along with you. There are around 8 enemy types, all of whom are annoying, inconsistent and really easy to take on, but that’s not the worst part. The most irritating part are the boss battles, the overly difficult (for the first time) rinse and repeat fight with a guy taller than you and worse with a blade. Slash at his kneecaps for a while, but never kill him, oh no, he’s gotta come back four more times slightly larger to test your mettle, only to be sent back on some jumping escapade across the rooftops. Everything about this game is generic, including the irritating voice overs from everyone’s favorite hero, the Prince. He never shuts up, often repeating bull shit we just heard from his annoyingly idiotic older brother moments before. With only three English speaking characters in the game, you’d figure the budget would allow for a better lineup, but it’s worse, and that’s just sad. You could just easily blame it on the writers, the ones who created such a generic story you’ve heard but never actually cared to remember. The rooms you are sent to get stupid, very quickly, once the water and memory mechanic come into play together. Prepare your fingers for the most intense press-on, press-off, jump-here, grab-that platforming moments ever. You will hate yourself for not putting the controller down at some of these stupid puzzles, especially in the room below a part of your final boss battle. Which, have you guessed it yet? Fizzles, flops and flounders as you ride flying platforms in an “Oz-like” sandstorm, grabbing ravens and jumping around to nothing, only to have something conveniently land beneath you. The game attempts to be cinematic, and only manages to receive scoffs for its blatant lack of creativity in level design and ridiculous scenarios. It’s unclear to me how this game has anyone who even slightly appreciates it as anything but a few hundred Gamerscore and a night full of regret. For that, I give this game a 2/5, and I don’t even think you should rent it…

The Mafia 2 Demo is an offer we can't refuse

The original Mafia game didn't get much attention, from me that is. But I've been watching its sequel with held breath and some very real excitement for the next game from 2K Czech, and now the wait is almost up. Actually, for a taste, the wait is already over as a short but intense demo released for the game on the Marketplace this morning. Weighing in at around 1 GB, the demo features a single mission in the game, a handful of weaponry and stores you can peruse and plunder. The demo's time period only lasts ten minutes, but the mission is fun, and free roaming around the small area you have is a blast. Also, between you and I, there's a small exploit that gives you more time upon death in free roam outside a mission. It's that easy, just die, and see some time added to the clock when you come back. Also, a brief warning, the demo is not yet rated, but features some harsh language and violence, as well as some very real and very nude Playboy Magazine centerfolds. These are optional pickups, but as soon as you press X, you're seeing b00bs. Interested in living the life of a Mafioso? Add the game to your download queue right over here.

Via - MajorNelson

Xbox Live Arcade Review: Limbo (The why I've been gone edition)

This is the main idea behind Limbo, an Xbox Live Arcade game with a creative art design and not much of a story. In fact, the true reason you, a child of no more than twelve, are caught in this dark world, is never truly revealed. All you know is that your sister went missing, and you're trying to find her. This quest isn't taken from any narrative, but rather the very description the game receives in the dashboard. The game is intriguingly challenging, perplexing and entertaining once you totally accomplish the next difficult puzzle. When I say difficult, I mean it. This game is tough, and requires trial and error at every corner. Once you master said challenge with this method, it's fairly easy to get enthralled in what the game throws at you. There's one point when pursued by a giant spider through a perilous landscape that I saw myself slowly nearing the edge of my seat. The action isn't really action packed, it's just exciting, nerve-racking and somewhat scary. None of the challenges had me throwing my controller (though I did angrily thrust it down into the chair I was in once or twice) and I had a great time seeing what happened come together. The visuals are all silhouettes, a style that suits the side-scrolling game and creates puzzles in themselves. The game is spooky, and you might feel uncomfortable more than once along your journey. This becomes evident when you see creepy figures setting traps in the distance or corpses floating face-down in the water as you jump across their backs to reach the next level. The game is frightening, but won't ever have you jumping from a shock scare or turning the lights back on, and that's great. A lot of games go for blood and gore as of late, and it's nice to see a game deliver chills based solely upon a blackened outline of something wicked. The game itself is hard to explain, and I'm currently attempting to muster up more information about it and drawing a blank. But the total lack of discussable content isn't a bad thing at all, it's just so unique. Perhaps to best explain the game, I should use other games as comparisons. The side-scrolling puzzle aspects are reminiscent of Braid, without the time travel. The visuals and darkness are very much like any horror title out there, except Limbo takes it up a notch with the somewhat unique silhouettes. It's best for the gamer to simply try this game for themselves, and figure out if it's for you. It doesn't have multiplayer, there's no varying difficulties and it's not exactly a long game, but none of that matters once you have your first epic moment running from rolling rocks or giant arachnids. Having beaten the game, I must say, I'll be heading back to Limbo soon to see if the ending is what I think it is, and to get all those pesky hidden eggs. For me, and anyone who is a fan of side-scrolling or a tough puzzle, this game is a definite buy.

My rating you ask? 4.5/5.

Check out a screenshot of this atmospheric game.

Halo: Reaches the top shelf with functioning forklift

The answer, is, quite honestly, a resounding yes for many people who love doing stupid things. Bungie clearly realized that as they announced that the forklift, originally just a prop in Halo 3, will be partly functional. I say partly because the fork will not lift, but the forklift will go in forward and reverse, at a perplexingly obvious slow speed, of course. It will be available in Forge, so you can spawn the drivable beasts for whatever you please.
Kane & Lynch: Dog Days demo brutalizes the Marketplace

While a lucky thousand people or so got their hands on an exclusive demo for Kane and Lynch: Dog Days demo a week or two ago, many were left feeling pretty upset and without this demo. Well, the wait for the people who weren't so quick on the draw is over, and the demo has released to the public this afternoon.
While a lucky thousand people or so got their hands on an exclusive demo for Kane and Lynch: Dog Days demo a week or two ago, many were left feeling pretty upset and without this demo.
Xbox Live Community Game Review: Painting Party (The we're back edition)

Wow, so... Here we are again, it's been what, a year? Two years?! Well, regardless of my hiatus (which was longer than XBO's) I'm back, and I've been in nostalgia mode for the past few days reading old articles. There's one thing I feel I should admit, I was very immature back then, I mean, I wrote the word "cuz," instead of because. Pushing aside my past literary inadequacies, I decided that in the tradition of XBO, one of my first written works should be a review. The decision for my Community Game review stems from the incredible lack of online coverage these games receive, which translate to a lot of hidden gems embedded in the rocky underbelly of our beloved Xbox Live. It's a shame because the following title, "Painting Party," is, as Hamza himself put it "very indie." So, without further ado, or further clichés and memories, I present to you, my new, and brief review of Painting Party.

				    Painting Party

Developer: Kobingo
Game Rating: Sex: 0/3, Violence: 0/3, Mature Content: 0/3 HDTV 720p
Online Multiplayer 2-4

Painting Party is an incredibly entertaining Indie Game, or Community Game, or whatever you want to call it. Regardless of what Microsoft is calling their public created games, Painting Party is a fun and entertaining videogame to play with your pals. Here's why, I don't consider my friends or myself artistic at all, but this game makes you feel like Picasso, because it's easy to make a drawing that you both question, and laugh at. While Picasso may not have garnered many yuks at his rendition of “Guernica,” the ability to make something beautiful is still there. The game is somewhat of a sequel to Let's Draw a Picture Together, a game in which you can paint and do basically the same thing. While the games are really the same, right down to the very engine, (same developer) there are some key bonuses with the game. You can use a color wheel to select about any color you can think of, and that's pretty useful when painting a house, the color brown, since it's not a default. Uh, yeah, that's actually all it adds on.. But I still bought it for 80 Microsoft Points, I mean, come on, it's super cheap! There do exist a few drawbacks about the game, for instance, the ability to share saved drawings with your friends, or undo things you've drawn in multiplayer. There's also a very annoying avatar sitting in the corner of your screen that you can thankfully disable, but it just shouldn't be there. But seriously, it's one of the only Indie Games I've purchased and played for more than five minutes. So here's the thing, try the demo, talk it out with your friends, and get them to try it too. Carve out a niche of paintings to make (we do comics, for example, rage threads) and have fun, that's all the game is about, and trust me, while it may seem juvenile, it's too enjoyable to pass up for being a mature snob. I give it the XBO Code Green.

If you're interested in trying this game out, head over here to add the trial to your download queue.

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Screenshot from Painting Party
